The Bulkley Valley – Witset Primary Care Network is the result of a collaborative effort following years of planning and engagement with partners including the Witset Nation, First Nations Health Authority, Northern Health, Pacific Northwest Division of Family Practice, and other community partners. Bulkley Valley – Witset Primary Care Network encompasses the regions of Houston, Smithers, Witset and surrounding rural areas which are located within Witsuwit’en Territory.  Witsuwitʼen means People of the Wa Dzun Kwuh River (Bulkley River), and includes five Witsuwit’en Clans: Gilseyhu (Big Frog), Laksilyu (Small Frog),  Gitdumden (Wolf/Bear), Laksamshu (Fireweed), and Tsayu (Beaver). 

Since opening in early 2023, the Smithers Primary Care Clinic (Yu Be Yikh) has focused on connecting patients with family doctors and nurse practitioners. The clinic offers daytime and, when possible, after-hours care for both registered and walk-in patients. To provide better support, the team has expanded to include a Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Dietitian, and specialized nurses for chronic disease and pregnancy care, operating out of the clinic and other Northern Health spaces.

The Witset Health Centre has provided essential local care to the community for over 30 years. Through the Bulkley Valley–Witset PCN, the center has expanded these services to include a Dietician and Pharmacist, ensuring residents can access more specialized support close to home.

The Houston Health Centre team provides complete, culturally safe care for local families. This patient-focused group includes a wide range of health professionals dedicated to supporting the overall well-being of the Houston community. The ChangeBC program is supported by a Family Physician, Dietitian and Clinical Exercise Physiologist. The Teaching Kitchen will be an exciting add-on to the program and will be opening soon.
