About our PCN

The Haida Gwaii Primary Care Network (PCN) is a collaborative partnership between the XaaydaGa Dlaang Society (Skidegate Health Centre), Niislaa Naay Healing House Society, First Nations Health Authority, Northern Health, and the Pacific Northwest Division of Family Practice. Together, partners are working to strengthen and coordinate primary care services across Haida Gwaii in a way that reflects community needs and priorities. The Haida Gwaii PCN is strengthening team-based care by providing culturally safe primary care services across the islands.

The Haida Gwaii PCN serves communities across the islands, including Masset, Gaw (Old Masset), and Tow Hill in Northern Haida Gwaii; Gamadiius (Port Clements) and Tlell in central Haida Gwaii; and Daajing Giids (Queen Charlotte) and Higaagilda (Skidegate) in the south. Services also extend to K’il Llnagaay (Sandpit) on Moresby Island.

The work of the Haida Gwaii PCN is guided by the Four Haida Laws. Yahgudáng/yahguudang (respect) symbolizes the importance of expressing respect for who we are, for our land, sea and culture, neither to be dominated or exploited. ad kyanang tlaagang/G̱ahl Kyáanáng Tláagang(to ask first) symbolizes the importance of asking first, seeing the natural world as a Sacred Living Being. Tll’ Yahda/tll yahda (make it right) symbolizes the importance of honouring women connected with restoration of wellness. gina ‘waadluxan gud ad kwaagid/Gin ‘Wáadluwan Gud G̱ahl kwáagíidang(everything depends on everything else) symbolizes the importance of reciprocity; the clan crests figures and Supernatural Beings remind us of their daily existence, of why we are here, and the responsibilities we hold.
